Why pet owners choose us
Looks like your pet, not a breed
We tell the painter to keep the face shape, eye color, markings and fur exactly as they are. A tabby keeps its stripes, a senior dog keeps its grey muzzle.
Ready in about 30 seconds
Hand-painted portraits take two to six weeks. Here you see the result while your coffee is still hot, and you can try another style right away.
Free preview, no sign-up
Your first portrait costs nothing to try. You only create an account if you like it and want the HD file.
7 styles, 8 royal costumes
Royal, Renaissance, Oil Painting, Watercolor, Line Art, Cartoon and Pop Art. For royal looks pick King, Queen, Duke, Duchess, Admiral, General, Knight or Princess.
Pets together, or you and your pet
Put up to four pets in one portrait, or yourself next to your dog or cat, with one photo of each.
Name plate and frames, free
Add your pet's name on a gold plate and preview gold, black or white frames before you print. No extra charge.
What makes a good custom pet portrait
A good custom pet portrait passes one test: the owner recognizes their own animal in a second. Breed alone is not enough. Two golden retrievers can look nothing alike once you notice the shape of the ears, the white hairs on the chin or the way one eye sits a little lower. That is why we ask the AI to keep every marking and the exact face, and why we tested the style prompts on dogs, cats and a rabbit with very different coats before launch.
The second test is the style. A crown and a red ermine cape suit a proud dog. A soft watercolor pet portrait suits a calm old cat. A funny pet portrait in pop art suits a goofy puppy. You can try several styles on the same photo, so you don't have to guess.
Pet portraits from photos: which photo to use
Pick the clearest photo you have, not the cutest. Phone photos are fine. The things that matter:
- Sharp eyes. If the eyes are blurry, the painted eyes will be guessed.
- Good light. Daylight by a window beats a flash in a dark room.
- The whole head in frame, ears included. Cropped ears come back as invented ears.
- One pet per photo for single portraits. For two or more pets, use the multiple pet and owner portrait mode and upload one photo of each.
- For a pet who has passed away, any photo you love will do. Older or lower-quality photos still work for a pet memorial portrait.
How much does a custom pet portrait cost?
A hand-painted portrait from an artist usually costs $100 to several hundred dollars and takes weeks. Online shops that print a designer-made portrait on canvas charge about $15 to $40 for the digital file alone and $60 to $170 for canvas. An AI pet portrait is far cheaper because no one paints it by hand.
Here your first portrait is free to preview, and your first HD download is free when you sign up. After that a portrait costs 40 credits (60 for several pets or a pet with its owner). Credit packs start at $5.99 and work out to about $0.83 per portrait in the largest pack. There is no subscription, and credits never expire. See pricing for every pack.
Custom pet portraits for every kind of pet
Most people start with a dog or a cat, and we have pages tuned for both: custom dog portraits and cat portraits. The same tool also paints rabbits, horses, birds, guinea pigs and more, see animal portraits. If you want a classic look, the renaissance pet portraits page has the royal costumes, and the pet portrait painting page is all about traditional oil.
For the holidays there are Christmas pet portraits with Santa hats and tree lights, ready for a card or a gift.
Is it really painted by hand?
No, and we say so up front. These are digital portraits made with an AI image model, styled to look like classic oil, watercolor or ink. That is what makes them fast and affordable. If you need a one-of-a-kind canvas painted by a person, an artist commission is the right choice. If you want a beautiful likeness of your pet today, for a wall print, a phone wallpaper or a gift, this is the quicker route. Read how our portraits are made for the details.
